Getting started with Solana

This page will talk about getting set up with a Phantom wallet on Solana so you can buy, sell and trade Solana tokens.

  1. Creating a Wallet:

To interact with the Solana blockchain to obtain coins, tokens and NFTs, you will need to have a wallet. A wallet acts as a storage device which is paired with a unique address which can be used to identify that wallet. This unique address can be used and sent to others in order to receive/send coins, tokens and NFTs.

To create a wallet on Solana, you will need a Chromium-based browser (Google Chrome) and add the Phantom Wallet extension.

To add the Phantom extension to your browser, go here and click "Add to Chrome".

Upon adding the extension, you should be sent over to a page that looks something like this:

If you do not see this pop-up, click on the tab labelled Phantom Wallet on your browser.

Next, we need to hit "Create New Wallet" - you will then be shown a recovery phrase (a backup code that can be used to recover your wallet if you get locked out). Write this down somewhere safe and do not give it to anyone that you do not trust! Next, click continue and you will be asked to create a password.

After saving your password, click through the remainder of the steps and once done, you should be ready to use your new wallet!

If you look in the top right of your browser, you should see the Phantom icon. You can then click on this to pop in and out of the wallet window. If you do not see it, click the jigsaw icon, find Phantom, and click the "pin" icon.

You should now be able to see Phantom on your toolbar. Go ahead and click the Phantom icon!

With the wallet now set up, you can now view your coins, tokens, NFTs, balance, and address in a friendly user and interface. Feel free to take some time to explore this popout window to get familiar. You can see transaction history, view your NFTs, swap funds and change settings all through this pop out wallet extension.

Once you've got the gist, move onto the buying Solana (SOL) page.
